I write within the tension of spirituality and culture, politics and theology, existing and emerging forms of church, the Kingdom of God and Empire America, modern and postmodern thought, & the gritty drama that is my pilgrim story.

Jeremy,

Great topic and a great intro. I am looking forward to reading and digesting each segment that you post. This is quite a touchy subject that needs to be dealt with among evangelical Christians. Even though many evangelicals are still quite defensive about capitalism, at least nowadays I feel you can actually have an good discussion about it. I remember some fifteen years ago raising questions about some of capitalism's flaws and being labeled a "neo-evangelical." A few even questioned whether I had abandoned the true gospel for a social one. Sigh...... And I happen to be more for free-market than a controlled market.

At least nowadays people in my Baptist church aren't ready to stone me for questioning their sacred cow.....

"While I agree capitalism in its basic rendition is the best economic system for creating economically and socially stable nations..."

Why? It could be argued that socialism is much more stable, albeit dictatorial in practice, and was simply hampered by the intrusion of the instabilities of the free-market system upon their attempts at forging a new path.

I'd be much more inclined to agree that capitalism is the best economic system to achieve a secular humanistic sense of justice. But more stable? I doubt it.
