"Whatever you do, do NOT disagree with him, this makes him really upset."

And why shouldn't it? To disagree with ME is to disagree with TRUTH! If you come on my blog just be aware of the RULES and LAWS about commenting. We allow ALL comments EXCEPT those that require us to substantiate our lies (oops) I mean, judgments on others. We will not allow you to ask us to prove ourselves. We will not allow you to ask questions that are difficult for us to answer. We shall not be questioned. If you do, we will delete your comment and add some of our own commentary about what you said (which may or may not be factual). Other than that, ALL comments are welcome.

Sorry Shane

There is a 'loving Christian' going around impersonating my name, my blog and my avatar (baby elephant which I will change soon to something else).

He comes in with the URL 'discerningtheworld(3).wordpress....' and he has linked my baby elephant avatar to his fake blog, and called this blog is his Discerning The World with the same grey theme.

The REAL me (Discerning The World) is discerningtheworld(2).wordpress.com

He started this fake blog a few days ago, and it kinda looks like mine, but all he does is insult me. I didn't think he would have the guts to actually go and post on others blogs using my details but he is now doing this as of today.

So, apologies for this. I did write an article about you and I do stand by every word I said, but doing what this guy is doing....is well....well I am sure you would hate someone going around and impersonate you.

If he is capable of doing it to me then he is capable of doing it to anyone, including you. Whatever you do, do NOT disagree with him, this makes him really upset. And if he can go and steal someone's identity even though it's only internet based (for now), then I would not want to know what else goes on in that mind of his.

Thanks for posting this.

A guy with a name like Shane "Hipps" is OBVIOUSLY of the devil. Why wouldn't he change his name to something more Christ-like? Everyone knows what hips are used for. Jezebels use them to entice men away from their wives. Shane is obviously trying to tempt people into lusting.
Stay away from the emergent church and people with hips!

Hey man, thanks for this. Are you able to place Shane Hipps' talk a little more clearly? I can't seem to make any clue of what he is talking about. Not sure if you've come to a conclusion on that either?

Amy,

My question in response to that is, how can we read it, believe it and do it if we don't analyze it? You seem to be coming from the presupposition that all I have to do is read through Scripture and I'll immediately know what to believe and what to do.

But if it were that easy then how could so many well meaning, prayerful Christians have created so many diverse denominations?

If it were that easy, then shouldn't all of us, when we read Scripture, walk away knowing, believing and being motivated to do the same things?

The fact that there is so often confusion and a diversity of thoughts as to what to believe and do tells me that we have no choice but to intensely study it, and yes, analyze it.

Please, I beg you, don't over analyze or mysticize Scripture. Read it, believe it, do it.
Jesus said, "Do not fear those who can hurt the body, but fear THE ONE who can send both body and soul to hell."
He told us to love our neighbor as ourself, which means love them enough to share eternity with them. (Matthew 28)
If you are just checking out the cool clothes, the scenery and the way this event made you "feel" then you have fallen for a false gospel. Open your Bible and ask God to show you the truth.

JMorrow:

I was thinking the same exact thing. Although I'm not at this event I've been following very closely and wanted to know if there was any mention of non-white, non-western, non-Northern hemisphere examples highlighted with regard to preaching. I have been really challenged by reading Jeremy's notes on ensuring that my preaching be centered around the metastory of the gospel. Furthermore, it's been great to hear the articulation of recapturing the narrative art form of homiletics. HOWEVER, this recapturing shouldn't speak for all preachers and styles of preaching. The historic Black church has and continues to use narrative form to proclaim the gospel and the inbreaking of the kingdom. The hispanic/latino church has and continues to tell stories of God's liberating action is our communities. I don't expect Rob, Shane or Peter to delve into this necessarily, but it is helpful to note that the kind of preaching that is being communicated at this conference (which I'm lovin') is happening all over churches in our world.

Jeremy,

Thanks for taking the time to liveblog this event. I've been taking lots of notes. One question I have is whether any of the speakers or attendees have mentioned or openly pondered the impact of culturally diversity on the art of preaching. So many North American preachers have fed their imaginations on great Western European and Euro-American pastors and evangelists, but what of those from ethnic minority and 2/3rds world cultures who have perhaps been on the margins of our preaching radar? Off hand I can think of at least a few of these "marginal" preachers whose understanding and style of the preaching have produced robust and artful sermons. Not that anyone can copy such an approach, but an examination of them might yield more insight into the kind expressive, postmodern style of preaching Bell et al are aiming for. Of course you could probably spend another day at such a conference talking about that topic, but just curious if anyone has mentioned it or what you think of exploring it.

Here's my basic layman's question in response to your thoughts on Peter's presentation. If God has spoken of himself, why do we have the need to speak to the world of God? Why can't we just create spaces where God speaks directly to people? Isn't this precisely the good news of that we are meant to spread through the great commission - that we CAN have personal relationship to God in Christ?

In living as Christians, we talk about the Jesus way. In speaking of God, perhaps we should be talking about the John the Baptist way?

Give me a good answer to this, and you'll do wonders to clear up one of my biggest hangups with evangelical Christianity.

Wow! nice clarification, Rich! I'm reading through Barth's Church Dogmatics 1.1, 2.1 and 4.1 this summer. Hopefully I'll better understand this perspective on the other side of my Barth reading :)
