I’m Hopeful Again Thanks To Obama

I know I am suppose to be on a blogging sabbatical, but I couldn’t help but post this: I am hopeful in the political process again.
I started reading Barack Obama’s book, The Audacity of Hope, and man am I impressed. It’s nearly 340 pages and chuck full of good stuff. The man can write, he [...]

Why Cedarville University Wanted To Bring Shane Claiborn To Campus

The following is a letter Dr. Carl Ruby, VP Student Life, sent to the faculty and staff PRIOR to Shane’s arrival. While it doesn’t address their cancellation, it does explain why they wanted him in the first place and what they hoped to accomplish. It’s both an exciting time and overwhelming time for me. It’s a time for learning and a time for visioneering and dreaming about a plant [...]

The Depths of Despair

I lamented why this world seems so screwed up, where God is in the mix of all this screwed-upness, and what I am I to do in the face of all the screwed-upness in my own backyard (which truth be told is in a lovely culdesac in the exurbes of Grand Rapids, very far removed from all the screwed-upness…).

… I think I am still affected by being kicked out of ministry a year and a half ago…and feel I’ll never be good at being a pastor nor be able to “do ministry” again.
